Sassy and George have little brothers, twins, who are about to turn four. In the past six months or so, they’ve been lucky enough to walk in two “fashion shows” for a local luxury retailer. And they LOVE doing it.

Despite the fact that they are rowdy boys, they really get into the clothes! At the Back to School show in August, they were VERY disappointed to find out that they wouldn’t be taking their outfits home. (They were pretty pricey…)

At both the August show and the December one, the store’s buyer put my littlest squirrel in a pair of straight (almost skinny) Diesel jeans. They were PERFECT for him (he is my skinniest kid, by a long shot). I thought they looked great but I couldn’t quite stomach $89 for them.

Today, I open my email and see that Diesel is having an online sale. And, guess what? Those cute little jeans are HALF OFF – now $45. And what a great excuse to write a blog post with pics of my little Harry?!

Back in August, my kids were invited to participate in a back-to-school fashion show at a local luxury department store. They were awesome. And they rocked their outfits!

My seven-year-old daughter is chomping at the bit, dying to make her First Communion. Or, more accurately, dying to dress up in the fancy white dress and veil for the day. One more year…

My eight-year-old son did make his First Communion earlier this month. As you know if you’ve read this blog at all, I dress my kids relatively conservatively, classically. At least for church and occasions. I won’t share what my three-year-old twins dress themselves in on a daily basis. (One went through a week-long phase in which he wore three-sizes-too-big-soccer-cleats everywhere.)

So, number one son had a single sartorial request related to First Communion. A bow tie. A real one.

I was lucky enough to find a real bow tie with an adjustable neck band in the men’s department of a local luxury retailer. The tie wasn’t exactly cheap ($50) but it was perfect. The one pictured below isn’t the one we bought – but it’s darn close.

The pants, button down and shoes came from Nordstrom. The jacket (which looks almost exactly like the one pictured below) came from the same retailer as the tie. It was $130 and is made by Scotch & Soda, which also makes super cool men’s clothes. (Also, I had a gift certificate that made the jacket only $30. Yay!)

And, in the end, he looked darling. Perfect. Cutest kid there. Ask anyone.

First Communion Look – Boys

It is time. The Halloween catalogs have started arriving at my house. My kids are changing their minds about “what they will be” for Halloween on a daily basis. And, unfortunately, every costume idea so far seems to be mass-produced crap. Can’t we find something better?

And……I’m back. Exhaling after the first week of school for my big kids. The little ones won’t start until after Labor Day. But, schedules (even for half of the kids) are good at our house. So, I’m back.

In church this morning, I was thinking that my oldest will make his First Communion this school year. Second grade. Big time.

I grew up in a small-ish New England town where almost everyone was Catholic and almost every Catholic was Italian. And, it was the late ’70s. So, First Communion was quite the sartorial display. Little over-the-top brides and dark-haired boys in white suits and white shoes.

Fast forward 30 years. I don’t quite envision my little red-head in a white suit. But I do know that he’ll wear a tie. Why not make it a fun one?
